LEMPEÄ - PUBLIC ARTWORKS IN FIINI CULTURAL CAMPUS

Kulturhuset Fiini, Pori, Finland, 2025

Commissioned by SKiB Foundation (Svenska Kulturfonden i Björneborg), coordinated by JKMM Architects. The Fiini Cultural Campus is a school building and cultural centre, designed by JKMM Architects, for SkiB, a foundation working in the fields of education, culture, and senior services in Pori. My site-specific artwork series includes seven wooden sculptures, a large, colourful mural painting, printed illustrations integrated into the library’s furnishings and sound art by Tytti Arola. The wooden sculptures, created in collaboration with Rudi Merz, are made from different types of wood, including branches from a Siberian larch tree felled from the building site. The mural painting, depicting two zebras embracing one another, highlights the role of  the SkiB Foundation as a promoter of life-long care and education, joy and culture in the every day.

The sound artwork is inspired by the materials of the sculpture figures, focusing on the sounds of wood and wooden instruments. The artwork becomes a living, generative soundscape and a dialogue between the animal figures spread throughout the building.
The cross-disciplinary, multisensory integrated art contributes to a creative, inspiring and playful learning environment in the campus building, reflecting the core values of the SkiB Foundation.
